In its category (bombproof compact stainless bushcraft-survival) the Mora Garberg is the best value you can buy, period. Is 14C28N the "best steel" in the world? No. But for a heavy-use tool, it is VERY good. Blade geometry and heat treat matter more than steel in isolation. Scandi is a proven geometry, and Mora absolutely know what they are doing with the Sandvik steels. Is this thing perfect? Of course not. Holding it in hand, it becomes clear why any criticism of the Garberg usually focusses on the handle: Generally speaking it is rather compact and probably not too much fun for glove sizes 8.5 and above. It's a little roughly finished (at least on my Garberg): There is a notable, sharp flash of material where the halves of polyamide meet on the top and bottom of the grip. It really bites into the hand when gripping firmly. Nothing some fine sandpaper wouldn't take care of though. In addition, the full tang "pommel" has the same sharp edges as the spine of the blade (which is great for ferro rod). Depending on how you grip it, that can get uncomfortable fast. I'd definitely wanna sand off those edges. Final small gripe: At least on my Garberg, the retention pressure of the sheath could be a little higher. It's the same sheath that is used for the lighter Kansbol, where it is sufficient because those knives weigh less, having no full tang. With the Garberg, I CAN shake the knife out of the sheath, which I don't love. Nonetheless, we're talking about a sub €70,- knife here on KaT. For that kind of money the Garberg is an absolute banger, anything comparable will set you back at least twice as much.
